Singapore will have a new prime minister on May 15, with Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong set to take over from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on that day.The date for the handover was announced in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office on April 15, a key detail in Singapore’s long-planned leadership transition from the third-generation to the fourth-generation (4G) political team. After he is sworn in at 8pm on May 15 at the Istana, DPM Wong, who entered politics 13 years ago, will be Singapore’s fourth prime minister. Singapore shares opened muted this morning, following data released on economic growth as well as the central bank’s move to stand pat on its monetary policy settings. In early trade, the Straits Times Index (STI) rose 0.04 per cent to 3,228.76 points after 45.2 million securities changed hands in the broader market. In terms of companies to watch, we have Jardine Cycle & Carriage. Singapore stocks were pulled into negative territory today, tracking a Wall Street retreat after US inflation data topped estimates, dashing hopes for near-term rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve. In early trade, the Straits Times Index (STI) headed down 0.9 per cent to 3,209.41 points, after 92.8 million securities changed hands in the broader market. In terms of companies to watch, we have City Developments Ltd. That’s as the property developer’s subsidiary Cityview Place Holdings said it will be selling 58 units of The Residences at W Singapore Sentosa Cove this month.  Elsewhere, from the impact of a hotter-than-expected US March inflation report on Asian markets, to Adobe purchasing videos to build its artificial intelligence text-to-video generator, more international and corporate headlines are in focus.
