Singapore shares started trading in positive territory today largely mirroring global markets. In early trade, the Straits Times Index (STI) was up 0.4 per cent at 3,220.16 points after 109 million securities changed hands across the broader market.  In terms of companies to watch today, we have Singapore Airlines, after news emerged that Temasek is selling around S$400 million worth of shares, or a 1.85 per cent stake, in the national carrier as a portfolio rebalancing act.  Meanwhile, from Nike’s earnings to SHEIN denying a US lPO more companies continue to be in focus. Also on our agenda today, China’s latest manufacturing activity contracted for a third straight month in June amid weak demand.  On Market View, the Drive Time team unpacked the developments with Benjamin Goh, Head of Research and Investor Education, SIAS.

In early trade, the Straits Times Index was up 0.5 per cent at 3,220.76 points after 51.3 million securities changed hands across the broader market. In terms of companies to watch, we have Catalist-listed Don Agro International. The Russia-based agricultural company has proposed to sell its crop and milk production business –for 6.2 billion roubles or around S$113 million. Meanwhile, from UBS preparing to cut over half of Credit Suisse’s 45,000-strong workforce to SIA’s remuneration for its chief executive and its dividends for shareholders, corporate headlines continue to be in focus. Singapore shares started trading in positive territory today This contrasts with global markets, which closed lower amid uncertainty about ongoing events in Russia. The Straits Times Index (STI) was up by 0.3 per cent at 3,199.63 points in early trade as 82.7 million securities changed hands in the broader market.  In terms of companies to watch for today, we have  Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, after it said yesterday that it obtained a contract from Maersk to build six methanol dual-fuel container ships for delivery between 2026 and 2027.  The shipbuilder also said in a separate bourse filing that the new orders to date are worth around US$5.6 billion, exceeding its US$3 billion target for 2023.  Meanwhile, from Indian billionaire Gautam Adani’s confidence in his conglomerate’s governance and disclosure standards to Baidu claiming its Ernie Bot now beats ChatGPT on key measures, corporate headlines continue to be in focus.
