Asian equities traded mixed today as Wall Street’s risk-on mood faded a day after the rally in big tech.
Mainland Chinese stocks returned under pressure despite fresh signs of an earnings recovery among the country’s tech giants.
The selling in mainland China came even as internet giant Baidu released financial results that showed its revenue rose the most in more than a year.
The company reported a larger-than-projected jump in sales for the June quarter as its net income rose 43%.

Money in the Market: What does the future hold for US and Chinese equities?
In its midyear outlook, HSBC Asset Management said the U.S. will enter a downturn in the fourth quarter, followed by a “year of contraction and a European recession in 2024.”
These recessionary fears, coupled with geopolitical uncertainties, haven't been music to the ears of US equities, which posted their worst week since March last week. So can we expect US equities to rebound?

Money in the Market: How are equities, bond and commodities markets faring in the wake of a tentative US debt ceiling deal?
The performance of US equities has been mixed following the announcement of a tentative deal on the longstanding US debt ceiling impasse.
The bond market also has much to contend with. The Treasury will need to replenish its coffers by selling more debt and the passing of the deal puts focus back on the Federal Reserve’s fight to tame inflation.
Meanwhile, gold futures and spot price rose while oil prices have slumped.
