27/11/24 - Morning Shot: Caregiving Conundrum - Is enough being done to support caregivers as the population greys?
By 2030, about one in four citizens in Singapore will be aged 65 and above. The rising burden of caregiving is coming into focus, with the little red dot’s population rapidly ageing. Just recently, Singapore’s labour movement committed a total of $5.4 million over the next three years to support lower-income union members with caregiving responsibilities at home. The role of informal caregivers too, is set to become even more critical. According to a recent study by the Centre for Ageing Research and Education, despite the significant time commitment, the monetary value of informal caregiving is often overlooked in eldercare cost estimates, with most studies focusing only on direct healthcare costs. On this episode of Morning Shot, Associate Professor Rahul Malhotra, Deputy Director of the Centre for Ageing Research and Education at Duke-NUS Medical School shares his insights. 26/11/24 - Electric Mornings with BYD: How BYD is revolutionising the EV industry
The drive towards sustainability in the automotive industry is growing, as climate change intensifies and environmental concerns mount. In Singapore, the ultimate goal is for all vehicles to run on cleaner energy by 2040 as part of its Green Plan. And from 2030, all new cars and taxis registered here will be required to be cleaner-energy models. But while we’re seeing staggering statistics with the automotive industry annually producing approximately 80 million vehicles, demanding a colossal 112 million tons of materials and contributing to over 10% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions, there has been a relentless focus on driving electric vehicle adoption and supply chain decarbonisation that’s redefining the sector’s priorities. On this episode of Electric Mornings with BYD, James Ng, Managing Director at BYD Singapore and Philippines shares his insights on what Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has done to support Singapore’s green shift on the mobility front, and how the company’s presence in Singapore has evolved over the years.
