Chat GPT, Generative AI and the money behind them! That’s what we’re going to talk about on the segment today. Our guest for today is from Microsoft, which has invested over US$10 billion in ChatGPT maker Open AI.  The company also launched earlier this month new versions of its Bing internet search engine and Edge browser powered by the newest technology from OpenAI.  At the launch, Microsoft had said that every percentage point of market share it gains in the search advertising market could bring in another US$2 billion of ad revenue.  But much of a share is the company aiming for? Also - what is the financial value of such Generative AI solutions at scale for businesses and how would that shake up the tech industry? How much of a first mover advantage can Microsoft gain as other tech giants play catch up? 22/02/23 - Market View: Wilmar International’s net profits up 8.6% you, SIA continues to fly high with Q3’s operating profits up 11.4 qoq, Great Eastern’s profits down 37%, US Fed minutes’ expectations
Singapore shares edged down today following losses in the US and Europe.  The Straits Times Index dropped 0.1 per cent to 3,303.11 points in early trade after 63.9 million securities changed hands.  In terms of companies to watch for today, we have Wilmar International, which posted an 8.6 per cent year-on-year rise in net profit to US$1.2 billion for its second half ended December.  And more good news from SIA as well. The carrier posted record operating profits for its third quarter ended December, rising 11.4 per cent on-quarter to S$755 million. 21/02/23 - Market View: Genting Singapore’s H2 net profit more than doubled yoy, Sembcorp Industries H2 profits up 54% yoy, SingPost’s operating profit fell 9.7 per cent despite rising revenues
Singapore stocks opened nearly flat today following gains in the European market.   The Straits Times Index fell 0.04 per cent to 3,307.59 points in early trade after 87.2 million securities changed hands.  In terms of companies developments to watch today, integrated resort operator Genting Singapore’s net profit for its second half-year ended December more than doubled from the year-ago period to S$255.7 million Similarly, Sembcorp Industries posted a 54 per cent on-year increase for its H2 net profit ended December, as a result of  higher contributions from its renewables and conventional energy segments.
