The Straits Times Index rose this morning, after US and Europe indices finished in positive territory overnight, opening in the green at 0.3 percent higher. To close the day, the STI closed up 0.9% Meanwhile, markets in the region today saw a positive rally after the economic data out from the US boosted sentiment.The largely anticipated US inflation data, which showed year-on-year core consumer prices in July rose at the slowest pace since 2021. On What's Trending, Chinese car maker Zeekr claims to have created the world's fastest-charging EV battery, surpassing rivals like Tesla. The upgraded batteries can charge from 10% to 80% capacity in 10 and a half minutes using ultra-fast charging stations. The battery performs well even in cold weather, charging from 10% to 80% of its capacity in less than half an hour at temperatures as low as -10C. Also, Veggie ID is an online quiz that categorises users into quirky vegetable personalities based on their choices in an interactive story set in VeggieVille, a world of sentient vegetables. Since its launch on July 22, Veggie ID has attracted over two million users, with one in five completed in Singapore. The quiz's 12 food-themed personality types were created using cartoon graphics and mobile phone apps.

14/08/24 - Market View: US PPI a pleasant surprise - Will the US CPI give the same?
Singapore shares opened higher this morning, after US and Europe indices rallied overnight. And it continued the rally throughout the day, with the STI closing 0.85% higher.  Meanwhile, stocks in Asia gained as markets did get a piece of good news on Tuesday when the producer price index report showed cooler inflation than expected. The consumer price index report on Wednesday could similarly fuel trading moves in the upcoming session.
