12/07/24 - What's Trending: Beauty and the... BotsOn What's Trending, AirAsia X (AAX) has announced a new route to Africa, connecting Singaporean travellers to Nairobi, Kenya via Kuala Lumpur. And there's a video which features a DJ in a safari setting, surrounded by giraffes and zebras. The caption suggests he is having the time of his life, with aerial shots of the animals and one animal looking at the DJ confused but slightly entertained.
Also, the first MISS AI beauty pageant, the first of its kind, has just been announced, with the first winner being Kenza Layli, a Moroccan lifestyle influencer who aims to bring diversity and inclusivity to the AI creator landscape. With nearly 200,000 Instagram followers and 45,000 on TikTok, Layli is entirely AI-generated, from her images to her captions and acceptance speech. However, experts have expressed concern about the implications of an AI beauty pageant, as stylized AI-generated images may further homogenize beauty standards.

11/07/24 - Market View: Testimony by Fed Chair Jerome Powell, US CPI and Sep rate cut projections; Vietnam Airlines as world’s best-performing airline stock; Movements in V2Y, Second Chance Properties, Keppel, Keppel DC Reit and moreSingapore equities gained steadily at the opening bell today, mirroring strong overnight gains in global markets.
In early trade, the Straits Times Index (STI) rose 0.6 per cent after 49.3 million securities changed hands in the broader market.
In terms of companies to watch, we have Keppel and Keppel DC Reit. That’s as the data centre Reit and its sponsor are jointly acquiring a 100 per cent interest in a shell and core data centre based in Tokyo, Japan.
