25/09/23 - Money in the Market: Will MAS extend its pause on monetary tightening in October?
Singapore’s core inflation moderated further in August from a year ago. This reflected improvements to supply chains and lower import costs that give its central bank more breathing room to extend its pause on monetary tightening. Official data showed that core inflation, tracked by the Monetary Authority of Singapore to determine policy settings, came in at 3.4% last month. The measure, which excludes housing and private transportation costs, was lower than the median forecast of 3.5% in a Bloomberg survey of analysts. What does this signal for Singapore's economy moving forward?  And how might regional equities be impacted by Asian inflation more broadly? On Money in the Market, Hongbin Jeong speaks to Abhishek Vishnoi, Senior Asia Equities Reporter, Bloomberg, to find out more.

19/09/23 - Money in the Market: How will stock markets be impacted by the US Fed's interest rate decision?
The US Federal Reserve's updated forecasts for its benchmark interest rate - due Thursday morning Singapore - are looming as a potential decider for a Treasuries market at risk of a third year of losses.  The two key questions are whether policymakers retain expectations for one more 25 basis-point rate hike by year-end, and how much easing they are pencilling in for 2024. The Federal Open Markets Committee FOMC is also due to release its quarterly Summary of Economic Projections, which will include the "dot plot," or a glimpse into participating members' expectations regarding the future path of interest rates. So how are stocks, bonds and the US dollar reacting ahead of the Fed's interest rate decision? On Money in the Market, Hongbin Jeong speaks to Richard Bullock, Senior Research Analyst, Newton Investment Management, BNY Mellon Investment Management, to find out more.

15/09/23 - Money in the Market: Is it a good time to load up on investment-grade corporate bonds or high yield bonds?
A bond market signal that has shown warning signs for months suggests an economic recession could still be on the horizon. According to data from Bloomberg, the 10-year and 3-month yield curve has been inverted for 212 straight trading days. This is a record that just surpassed the 1980 inversion and is now the longest stretch since at least 1962. The yield curve inverts when short-dated Treasuries offer a higher yield than longer-term Treasuries, a market anomaly that typically suggests a period of economic weakness is imminent. A significant number of bond strategists polled by Reuters also indicated the benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury note yield has peaked in the current cycle. What does this all mean for bond markets in the future? On Money in the Market, Hongbin Jeong speaks to Omar Slim, Co-Head Asia ex Japan Fixed Income, PineBridge Investments, to find out more.
